Ride of The Mustang

Ride of the Mustang 2024

Ride of the Mustang is a fundraiser for George McDougall High School in Airdrie, Alberta. This year is the 14th annual Ride of the Mustang taking place March 26 - March 28, 2024. The success of the Ride of the Mustang event earned George McDougall High School the 2014 Generosity of Spirit Award.

In 11 years this event has raised over 1 Million Dollars!

George McDougall High School’s annual Ride of the Mustang concludes another successful Ride. As in the past, any and all money raised through this event will be donated in its entirety to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation to help kids who are fighting cancer. In the first 11 years, the George McDougall community has raised over $1,000,000 for this cause, which has made a tremendous impact to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and to those who rely on its services. Currently, the Ride is one of the top fundraising charity events in Alberta organized by youth.

Prior to the event, our school gathered donations from around the community in the form of pledges and sponsorship.

Cancer has not only impacted a great many people around the world, but it has also touched the lives of many members within our own school and community. As stated by George McDougall alumni Amy Nelson, “...[Ride of the Mustang] is our way of saying that people with cancer are not alone, and that even though they may not see it, they have a huge amount of people supporting them.”

George McDougall High School is extremely appreciative of the tremendous amount of support that we have received in the past, and we hope to continue to make an impact for such an important and worthy cause.

13 years, over one million dollars raised, over 5000 participants, and we still continue to “Ride for One, Ride for All”

January 30, 2023

To whom it may concern:

Cancer continues to touch the lives of those we love too often and it is even more heartbreaking when that life is one of an innocent child.  A student within our school was diagnosed with cancer which sparked the inaugural Ride of the Mustang bike-a-thon: an event where teams work in shifts to ride stationary bikes for 3 days. In its first year, this event saw 42 teams with 400 participants raise $51,000 for “Kids Helping Kids”, an initiative at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. Since then, the ride has expanded to host 65 teams with over 5000 participants; cumulatively, we have raised in excess of one million dollars. In 2014, we were awarded “The Spirit of Generosity Award for Philanthropic Group” at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon. We continue to be humbled and motivated by our overwhelming support and the drive to make a difference within our school and community.

Students and staff are now busy organizing our 14th annual Ride of the Mustang event to be held March 26 to March 28, 2024. We are currently seeking community partners to join our cause and to help us help children and their families dealing with cancer. A partnership summary has been attached to this letter outlining this year’s sponsorship levels and subsequent benefits for your review.  Sponsorship dollars and gifts in kind are an integral part in offsetting operational costs and augmenting funds generated via the participants in the ride. As a partner, you are not only supporting “Kids Helping Kids” but also acting as role models demonstrating the importance of giving back to our community and building community spirit.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.  A student committee member will be following up to discuss this partnership opportunity with you shortly. We look forward to this meeting to further discuss this opportunity and hope to partner with you in the future.  If you have any immediate questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Kelsey Ahluwalia at 403-948-5935  or kahluwalia@rockyview.ab.ca.

Sincerely,
Ride of the Mustang Committee
